Read This Before You Blog About Blogging

BloggingI am no expert in blogging about blogging (BaB) but I have been reading blogs for more than 2 years now - and blogging as well. I only seriously started BaB towards late 2007 when I felt that this blog needs a focused direction and theme.

Over time, I realised from my reading of blogs about blogging that there are blogs which attract me and there are those which made me laugh and to return no more. There seems to be some common traits in the successful blogs and common mistakes or weaknesses in the not-so-popular blogs. I believe I am not the only one to make such observations. If you are thinking about BaB, then do read this post to see if you are destined for success or failure.

It Starts With The Look

If you are serious about BaB, please give your site a professional look about it if you have not. It is embarassing to have a poorly designed site whilst trying to send a message or delivering a tip to your readers about the importance of having a good looking site. A poorly designed site could include a site which has broken links, tired-looking theme (you’ve seen it before), poor choice of colour, flashy animations galore and having auto-play music around. If you must dwell in BaB, take a look at the established sites and learn from how well-designed their blog is and adapt the same for yours.

The Name Is More Likely To Matter Than Not

Frankly, I am more attracted to blogs about blogging which come with a custom domain. Those which are hosted on Blogger or other free hosts are less likely to impress. If you have read enough from those who are successful in having a big readership, having a custom domain is important for branding. Having a custom domain indicates that you are taking blogging seriously enough to warrant investing your monies into it. Again, if you are blogging using a free hosting platform, do ensure that you do not commit the faux pas of advising your readers to buy a custom domain or hosting. Why should they do it if you do not? Read on »

6 Secrets Revealed To Be A Grade-A Blogger

AdulationLet’s be honest, unless you are blogging solely for your close families and friends, chances are you wish you could be a Grade-A blogger. We all dream of having thousands of readers and subscribers. We all dream of having our blog posts becoming popular on social media and attracting more than 100 comments. We all dream of having other people raving about our blog. Just like how a 1st class student is distinguished from a 3rd class student, the attributes of a Grade-A blogger can be distinguished from an average blogger. If you can show the following characteristics in your blogging, you definitely have the makings of a Grade-A blogger (if you are not already one). These are 6 brilliant ways to be a Grade-A blogger.

Originality of Thought
Tell your story your way. Nothing is more important than expressing your own thoughts through your own style. Assuming you author a blog about managing personal finance and you wish to blog about tips to reduce credit card debts. We all know there are thousands of articles on the same subject matter. Don’t follow the others. Rather, tell it in a different way. If you have a personal experience, use it and share it in your tips. It becomes more original and lends a reality to the thing you are blogging about. Remember that your own story is unique. And people generally like that. Read on »

Tree Blogging

Shady TreeMost people are in awe of towering trees - deep and healthy roots, massive trunk and shady branches. It is not surprising that trees are often used as a symbol of strength and to a lesser extent, protection and comfort. Man, being attuned to nature, are naturally attracted to trees (and plants) for the benefit they bring which explains why even a condominium dweller would still buy some potted plants to adorn his home or balcony. So, what’s a tree got to do with blogging? Well, I want to share some tips with you to visualize how you can use the example of a tree to create a blog which people love.

Roots

Roots denote foundation and security. When you build your blog, begin by writing a few (say, 10) foundational posts - posts which are timeless and provide plenty of value to readers. Write these posts with the aim of providing maximum attraction to new readers and continuing to attract new readers even when you have blogged for a considerable time.

When executed in the most optimum way, these foundational posts serve to draw incoming traffic. Even during dry days (eg. when you are too busy to blog or have nothing to blog about), you can rest secure that these foundational posts of yours continue to bring incoming traffic. Unless deliberately poisoned, the roots of the tree are probably one of the last parts of the tree to die. Read on »

Slow and Steady Blogging

Slow and SteadyMany of you have read about how a blogger needs to keep churning out posts frequently so as to explode their traffic and increase readership count. You read tips like “Publish a post everyday” or “Write frequently to make them return often” and happily accepted and followed them with the hope that you will become the next problogger. More often that not, you or the other newbie or not so newbie blogger get frustrated or dejected when the statistics of your blog’s traffic or readership feed subscription does not look as impressive as how some of these probloggers have achieved. Actually, not all tips work for everyone except probably this - slow and steady blogging is a proven way.

More Time To Think and Plan

Blogging at a slower pace (which I would mean not more than 2 or 3 posts a week) gives you more time to think and plan your blog postings. It gives you room to write a quality blog post which would provide value and attachment to your readers. You would be able to space out your blog posts so that they are consistent.

More Time to Explore and Craft An Outstanding Post

It gives you time to explore other blogs or scour the net for information and get more ideas to craft that quality post. Many bloggers who reported success with their successful and timeless posts recounted on how they invested numerous hours to research and write those posts. If you were to write a post on the 100 most beautiful wordpress themes or 50 delicious chicken recipes, you will definitely need to spend a lot of time reading. Read on »
