Of Holidays, Scheduled Posting and Obsession With Blogging
So, are you using the scheduled posting feature of your Wordpress blog platform? I think that would be more relevant to readers who blog using Wordpress. Unfortunately, Blogger does not have this function available todate though I seriously wonder why since it is such a useful feature to have. For many of us, especially the Chinese who are celebrating the Lunar New Year this Thursday the 7th February for up to 15 days, holiday seasons can be a time of withdrawal symptoms as we are unable to get ourselves to a computer to blog like we often use to. The thought of leaving one’s blog without any entry for more than a week can give a blogger nervous breakdown (exaggeration or truth?) as he imagines feed subscribers unsubscribing and new readers not returning due to the inactivity. It would probably be worse for those who blog daily!
Thanks to the guys who contribute towards Wordpress development, they recognise that it is better to leave such bloggers sane and allow them to enjoy their holidays by developing the scheduled posting feature. In case you don’t know about this (especially if you have not seen how Wordpress works since you are blogging from Blogger), you can actually pre-set the time and date for your post to be published anytime in the future. So, you can nicely line up a list of posts to automatically publish one by one according to your pre-set schedule so that your blog would continue to be alive in your absence and your readers would be kept entertained whilst you entertain yourself.
Thing is, do you have all the time in the world to prepare for all these posts to be published in the future - especially if you are already struggling to fill in the current posting frequency which you would like to maintain a consistency? As it is, there are so many tips out there to help bloggers overcome the writer’s block which goes to show that bloggers do run out of things to blog about sometimes. Would it not be more demanding to then have to cater for those periods when you are away for a holiday? Inviting guest bloggers might be a solution but your regular readers might not be accustomed to the idea, unless your blog has featured guest bloggers frequently.
As for me, I love blogging far too much to be troubled about whether my blog would be too quiet during my holiday periods. I am of the view that if I am too worried about whether my blog would have posts during my vacations and whether I would lose readers and the like, something seriously is wrong with me and my priorities. I must take charge of my blog and not let it take charge over me. Being obsessed with blogging is not healthy, don’t you think so?
So, if you have to go on a holiday, what do you do with your blog in your absence? Are you in charge of your blog or is blogging in charge of your life?

I’m putting up a post that says I’m away for the holidays. Heck, its just a blog innit? If they like it, they’ll come back
Gong Xi Fa Cai!
Haha. No, I didn’t have any post scheduled. Hey, everyone else is on holiday so if you shedule your posts, no one will come round to read anyway. Lol! Just kidding. You are right of course. You should rule your blog and not the other way around. Gong Xi Fa Cai!
If you have something to write, just schedule it if you must. But if not, then I say just let it be. No point putting up empty posts. Haha. Happy New Year to you, Pablo!
Well, in your food blog and personal blog, you can tweak your writing style a bit to suit the content to CNY. However, it is a little bit hard for this blog though.
Keeping yourself to the current frequency is a tough job but sometimes, even if you have a lot of ideas to post, delay some of them and put them into the reserves for holiday use.
I didn’t prepared a lot of them but hopefully, there will be enough unexpected events going on in the blogosphere that you give me something light to blog about.
Oh ya, Happy Chinese New Year to you!
Paris : I like your positiveness
Happy CNY!
Mumsgather : That’s true too - especially if most of our audience are local and everyone’s on holiday. But might not be so if the blog has a more international audience. Even so, for sanity’s sake, we should not let the blog rule us
Happy CNY!
GiddyTigress : The next post on this blog is on scheduled posting! After that, it will have to wait till I get back
Wayne : If one has a lot of ideas to post, then it would be recommended that the posts are scheduled and spaced apart. Trouble is, many bloggers do get a writing block and it is not all that easy - unless it’s a personal blog and you can blog whatever that just comes into mind. Happy CNY Wayne! Enjoy the hols!
