Reader’s Opinion Needed On DoFollow
This blog has been utilising the DoFollow plugin for a couple of months. Back then, this blog enjoys a Google Page Rank of 4. It was slapped with a zero and my best guess is that it was due to my using of the DoFollow attribute AND writing paid reviews over here. Following a change in the focus, direction and theme of this blog late last year, paid reviews did not flow with the other contents on this site and thus were removed (after satisfying the advertisers’ requirements on removal).
The use of the DoFollow attribute was to share some so-called page ranking with those who commented on this blog. Being not totally clear myself on how the sharing works, having a link on this site (through commenting and leaving the url) is supposed to pass some authority to the commenter’s site. However, with the current Page Rank of zero, there is in effect nothing to share.
Apart from that, I have been getting quite a lot of spammy comments which take up a bit of time to weed them out one by one. More often than not, these are one-off commenters who do not seem to take any interest with subsequent posts. With a couple of blogs to manage, I can do without the attention of these spammers.
Now, I need your opinion. I know most of you who comment here - and I mean the regulars, especially, comment in response to the blog posting first and foremost rather than with the primary motive of squeezing out whatever juice that is left on this blog. If I were to remove the DoFollow plugin since it is redundant, would you protest about it? I need your feedback on this. So help me out to make a better decision.

Protest? Of course we’ll protest! We’ll hold street demonstrations! We drained you of all your PR juice didn’t we?
On a serious note, I’d say it makes no difference. Install no follow or uninstall the do follow and get back your PR. It’ll be better for your personal satisfaction in the long run. But hey, I’m selfish - my blogs are all on no-follow after learning from our 5xmom guru
Go ahead and remove the DoFollow. I think that plugin was designed to encourage more people to post comments, but if it costs you more trouble then it’s not worth it. In addition I don’t really care if a blog is DoFollow or NoFollow before I comment.
As for the spam, are you using Akismet?
I don’t comment for link juice. If I am doing this, you won’t be seeing my comments everywhere. I comment for the sake of networking with bloggers and if possible, steal some traffic from high traffic sites.
Remove it like I do. Comment will still come in if your posts encourage interactions and comments.
Paris : You will need a police permit to hold a street protest here in Malaysia
Thanks for your vote!
Adino : Thanks! I use SK2 but somehow, some will still filter in. And this is not the only blog I manage…so….
Wayne : Looks like it’s 3 for removal or rather, commenters who are indifferent to the dofollow plugin as a reason for commenting.
I was reading your post and I happen to know quite a bit about the way Google works. dofollow is not a thing that would cause your PageRank to decrease. One thing that they are penalizing for websites that take pay to post stuff and paid links. I’ve heard many things going on about loosing PageRank with blogs. I’m sure you got penalized because of your pay per posts. I sure this is the reason.
I have to say I refuse to comment on any blog that is nofollow, Even if it is a great blog. So look the truth is that nofollow does not hurt your blog but helps. This is a way of saying that your care about what other people say. nofollow is an act of selfishness. The internet is a way that the world links together. nofollow is like saying, I like what you have to say but please shake my hand with a big rubber glove. It’s really kind of rude. Yeah some people don’t care other care a lot. Look if you think your the only one that gets spammed then your wrong. Their is quite a bit of plug-ins that will help you, but the best way is to moderate comments. If your think that your page rank has anything to do with your dofollow it does not. It has to do with the fact that Google is really going after sites that are using paid links or even have paid links anywhere on their site or page articles. So I asking you to wake up. nofollow is rude. Do your care about your audience and your readers?
O yeah! I just noticed you have a paid link or something that would be considered a paid link on your page.

I sure this is something that I know Google would look down upon
Todd!!!!!!!
Todd : Thanks for the insightful comment! The Godaddy link is an affiliate link. I don’t suppose that it against Google’s T&C?
