Why Do Bloggers Blog
I posed that question early November and had 8 responses, to which I must thank them for participating. Before I move on to their responses, as promised, I will give my answers to the 3 questions I posed.
I wanted to improve my written English. Serious! That was my first reason for blogging. I had read a few good blogs prior to that and was mesmerised by their command of the language that I felt I need to put my written English into more practice. Drafting legal pleadings and letters are not exactly all that exciting. Next, since it was going to be an exercise to write better, I decided that I would write about things I see or experience. As the blog was going to be promoted to my close friends and relatives, I found it as a way for me to reach out to them as a witness for Christ. You can call it an indirect expression of spiritual view points. It then became an opportunity to make a side income through advertising and networking with others. Subsequently, I started a food blog (in case you didn’t know, this blog which you are reading is my 3rd blog) to share family recipes. It is my most read blog today and I am happy to note that some of the recipes have now been tried and tested by people around the world with good comments.
What Do You Hope To Achieve By Blogging?
It’s pretty much tied in to why I blogged in the first place. The goals are continuous and still continuing. I would say that there has been improvements in all those areas mentioned.
How much time do you spend a day doing blogging related work?
Way too much I think. On the average, at least 4 hours a day. It is a mixture of blogging, reading, commenting and the like. Ideally, it should not take more than 2 hours a day, lesser would be better. That is because I only have 24 hours a day and spending 1/6 of my waking hours on blogging may not be productive enough as far as I am concerned. I am still trying to find a balance.
Now, let’s see what the others have got to say…
The first to submit was Helen who said she spent about 8 hours a day doing blogging related stuffs! I must say, she writes pretty good stuff. The type which stirs one’s thoughts and makes one think on the issues written.
Mr Endoh came next saying that he finds blogging therapeutic. I think many bloggers would agree with him, especially those who write personal blogs. Oh, by the way, find out why he says he spends 24 hours a day on blog related stuffs.
Blog buddy Paris Beaverbanks was next to blog on this subject. I can always count on her participation and knew that she was going to write on this project. She loves to write and it shows through her writings. Her writings seem so effortless. If you need writing lessons, read her blog.
Who do we have next? It’s Rinnah. According to Rinnah, it’s not about the PR (the Google one, that is). She also said that by the time she quits blogging, she would hope that people would remember the name Rinnah. I think many bloggers secretly hope that their name or nickname would be remembered. Would you not remember PabloPabla??
Moving on, there’s Tine whom I have featured and reviewed on this blog before. She also has the writing flair not unlike Paris. She calls herself a perfectionist blogger, spending hours to draft and edit her posts before posting. I wonder if she is also a perfectionist in other things that she do?
Jolzyn was next to submit her reasons. One of the things she hope to achieve by blogging is to have a place where she can record the events that have happened in her life. That rings true with many bloggers who chronicle the things that happen in their life (of their babies’ lives!).
The Giddy Tiger, whom I know personally
has an interesting title to the post - Choose now, Ham or Eggs? She equates herself as the Ham and you’ll have to find out why. I am not going to spoil the fun revealing them here.
The final submission which came in just on the dot was from Pelf. She blogs with influence on her mind and it is not surprising that this lady is also the author of two other sites which contributes to ecological and turtle related issues. That is what I call purposeful blogging.
I don’t know whether it is by coincidence or due to the nature of the questions posed but the responses were from bloggers who author personal blogs. But they are all good reading. It gives you an idea of how this thing called blogging means so much to so many people out there.

Say only know me personally, but never met before… or we have met before but not before I began blogging. hahaha…
Next project please?
I blog simply because I love to write and I find that it helps me to organise my thoughts and it helps me achieve my goals by writing about it and giving it more purpose. It helps me stay positive and is a pick me up when I am down. My personal blog is well quite rojak. As for my Mothering blog, I am happy when someone writes to me for help in overcoming their postpartum blues or asking me whether what they are facing is a chemical pregnancy things like that. Its nice to be able to reach out and give support to others. As for my Parenting blog I am happy to receive comments out of the blue for old forgotten posts from someone in another part of the world telling me how they would like to use a certain craft for their project for lots of kids. Those sorts of things make my day.
I blog for fame and fortune!! LOL.
I started blogging to bring some traffic to my site. Now, the networking and opportunities are more interesting to me.
Tine : Shall I keep you occupied by having more writing projects? LOL!
helen : LOL! Yeah, I think some found it hard to answer these questions which seem easy on the surface but can be testing indeed
ParisB : Maybe. Just maybe the legal training helps a little
giddy tiger : Hmm…we met but don’t know what the other was doing
Funny how things worked, eh?
mumsgather : Your mothering and parenting blogs are indeed useful. It is not at all easy being a full time housewife. Glad you are sharing your experience with others.
Ah Pek : The award for the most honest blogger goes to you!
Steven : Yes, the power of networking and opportunities through blogging can never be underestimated, especially if one is also doing business.
