What’s Your Blogging Goal?

Skellie wrote a thought provoking article and here’s an excerpt:-

To grow and grow and grow, get more hits, more subscribers, more page views, is not a useful goal for a blogger or webmaster. Of course, it’s something we should all be trying to do, but it’s only a means to an end. Treating it like an end in itself is a bit like eating constantly but never feeling satisfied. If you grow to a certain extent, you never achieve complete success, because you could always grow some more.

I can’t agree with her more. Some blog specifically for money, some blog to express themselves which they won’t do in the physical world out there, some blog to share skills whilst some blog to join the blogging phenomenon. The list of blogging intent can go on and on.

As for me, I still remember that in the initial months of my blogging venture, my goal was to seek to touch at least one life out there. Noble intention, some might say. After all, back then I was solely blogging through my personal blog and had shared a bit of life experience from the viewpoint of a follower of Christ. It was also a way for me to share my beliefs with people I know, albeit not in a preachy form (though I must confess that sometimes I feel that the tone of my writing is bordering or is in fact some form of preaching!).

As time moved on and the blogging itch widens, I dabbled into creating a web site to document family food recipes. The thrill that I get from the growing subscriber base and readership cannot be described by words, more so when the recipes bring back fond memories for my readers. Little did I realise that the act of sharing recipes could bring a real sense of satisfaction to me and some of my readers. And now, as some of you know, I am further increasing my sharing bit through a blog on financial, legal and insurance matters. Sort of like putting back to community whatever knowledge I have so that they can learn a thing or two.

Somewhere along the blogging path, I have gone into monetisation of my blogs and gotten myself obsessed with statistics as well. I think that is quite common amongst bloggers. Nevertheless, I think my blogging goal of seeking to touch the life of someone out there through sharing has remained intact. That satisfaction continues to drive me. At the end of the day, there is an accountability that I hold to God for the things I do, blogging included. Afterall, my time on earth belongs to Him and if I were to spend my time blogging, I better be doing it for His glory.

What about you? What’s your blogging goal?

Personally, I have no goals. The moment I set goal is the moment blogging lost its fun factor.

Yeah, I do hope my blog will grow… but then it’s not the most important thing. I try not to make it an important thing.

**Personal.. for blog author only** No smart alec please.

I always remind myself during prayers not to let myself go into bondage. Bondage comes in many form… I do think obsession with blogging and paid posts is one. Paid posts are not evil… but if I let it have control over my life, then I’m in bondage.

You ever have this thought? :-)

    1. For the Lord, in my own style
    2. For release tension
    3. For keepsakes
    4. For influence (if #1 doesn’t work, at least some moral lessons)
    5. For fame (in Malaysia, Asia and the world)

    NO MORE. PERIOD.

The $$ just happens to fall on my lap.
