Keep Up-to-Date with Google Alerts
When I was contemplating posting about this, I was a little apprehensive. I really wondered how many people out there DID NOT KNOW about Google Alerts. Frankly, I only knew about its function when I was doing a search on blogs on a particular item when something caught my eye at the bottom of the blog search. Apparently, you can get google to search for your required news or article or whatever and alert you by email as-it-happens!
Since I only discovered this function yesterday and am sharing it here, those of you who already know about this - er, please excuse my excitement as I share this. This post is for those who don’t know about this piece of alert. LOL!
Let’s say you are interested in knowing the latest news or posting about “IPhone“. You go to Google Alerts. Enter your search item (in this case “Iphone“). Next, you choose whether the search is limited to “Blogs, News, Web, Groups or Comprehensive“. After that, you pick the frequency of search - once a day, as it happens or once a week. Fill in your email and wait for the updates.
I can see how useful this can be for website operators so that they can be kept in the know (on an as-it-happens basis) for what the world is saying about their website or product. Hence, the ability of them to respond to articles, postings or news immediately. This is especially crucial for service oriented sites. You wouldn’t want a negative or disparaging piece of news on your site without your immediate response.
Neat eh?
